Did you know…

Did you know that an estimated 75% of the population experience some amount of fear when visiting the dentist? The fear can be a mild level of anxiety and, in some cases, full blown “dental phobia.”

In my opinion, what is most important is that you recognize that you aren’t crazy for feeling anxiety when having dental work done. I tell my patients that every day! In fact, as you just learned, you are actually in the majority.

Well, what can I do to have a more pleasant experience?…

First and foremost, my recommendation would be to find a dentist that makes you feel comfortable. This seems obvious; however, people typically chose a dentist based on an insurance provider list and not always the doctor that can best manage their fears. A dentist that can talk you through procedures will go a long way towards lowering your anxiety. Next, sedation services can be heaven sent. In our dental offices, we offer differing levels of sedation based on your needs.

  1. Nitrous (laughing gas) can be perfect for some. Just enough to take the edge off and help you relax.
  2. IV sedation (a deeper level of sedation) might be better for others. This method provides sedation where the patient is awake enough to answer questions but feels completely at ease. You typically don’t even remember being in the dental chair!

Based on the complexity of work needed, we can tailor a sedation plan to fit your needs.

The moral of the story…

The moral of the story is if you are in the majority and have some level of dental fear, make 2019 the year that you decide to do something about it. At Pony Express Dental, we love working with those who have put off their dental work for a long time so that we can re-introduce them to a whole new, anxiety-free way to have dental work done. Let us give you something to smile about!
