A Brief History of Eagle Mountain

Long before Eagle Mountain became a thriving city, this Cedar Valley land carried deep historical roots. The area sits along the original Pony Express National Historic Trail, the storied 1860 mail route crossing the American West, and boulders throughout the region bear 1,800-year-old petroglyphs carved by ancient Fremont Indians. The modern city took shape in 1994 when developer John Walden purchased approximately 8,000 acres of Cedar Valley at a bankruptcy auction. Working alongside nearby community members, he secured the support needed to incorporate Eagle Mountain as a town on December 14, 1996, with just 250 residents and Debbie Hooge serving as its first mayor.

Growth came quickly. By 2001 the city earned reclassification as a third-class city, and today Eagle Mountain is home to over 65,000 residents. Major technology companies including Google and Meta have selected the area for large-scale data center development, and the city consistently ranks among the top small business cities in the nation, confirming that Eagle Mountain is growing in economic stature just as fast as it is in population.
